Community Relationships

Partner Development

The Pfeiffer Institute has developed strong, ongoing partnerships with other organizations in Charlotte and surrounding areas. My role is not only to cultivate relationships with existing partners by frequent communication and on-site visits, but also to build new relationships.
The benefits of our relationship with these sites are numerous. Our interns continue representing the servant-leadership mission of the university by providing clinical services throughout our community. In addition, our MFT students gain further opportunities of training in specialized areas. For example, the Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte (RMH) provides housing accommodations for families with children receiving health care at a nearby hospital. However, RMH did not have mental health services in their initial services for their families. I realized PIMFT could help support RMH's efforts in providing a safe and comfortable stay for the families by also including mental health and emotional support during a stressful time in their lives. In 2009, while RMH had just broken ground on their land, I began contacting them. Due to my persistence and passion, we  began planning how PIMFT and RMH could develop a partnership. When the House opened in 2011, we provided the House with their first clinical interns. To this day, the services our interns provide are a valuable asset to RMH and the families they serve.
