MFT Expo

MFT EXPO

Each year I have created, organized, and implemented the MFT Expo. The purpose of the annual expos focused on three main goals with their own specific objectives:
University Purpose:
  • Generate Pfeiffer University exposure to the Charlotte community
  • Distinguish Pfeiffer University from other area universities
  • Bring traffic directly to Pfeiffer University
Clinic Purpose:
  • Promote the Pfeiffer Institute as a community resource
  • Make personal connections with people of the Charlotte community
  • Engage community members (e.g., depression screenings)
Student Purpose:
  • Provide networking/future internship introductions
  • Attract potential students to Pfeiffer University
  • Invite alumni participation
From designing promotional materials (i.e., flyers, street banners), to ordering extra garbage containers and safety signage, to recruiting volunteers and participants, to contracting with vendors, my creative vision and attention to detail solidified the execution of these monumental Pfeiffer events.

2009 Depression Screening Event

2010 MFT Expo

October 7, 2010 transformed from only offering free depression screenings at PIMFT to a large expo format to include our partner sites and various community businesses. I organized the structure of the expo, recruited volunteers and participants, and networked with area restaurants to donate food.

The external placements sites that participated were:
  • Presbyterian HealthCare
  • CMC-CHS
  • The Renfrew Center
  • Salvation Army - Adult Rehabilitation Center
  • United Family Services
The area restaurants that donated were:
The Pfeiffer Institute offered free depression screenings. Our Pfeiffer MFT students networked with site supervisors from our partner external placements sites. Three of our MFT students offered stress management workshops throughout the afternoon. Lastly, a massage therapist from Eden Therapy and Massage provided free neck and shoulder massages.

2011 MFT Expo

October 6, 2011 was the biggest expo to date, called "Be well Eat Well." It included other Pfeiffer University graduate programs and the School of Adult Studies. In addition, due to the enormous scope of this expo, I created a committee to help in executing the many tasks required to host this event. Furthermore, I was awarded the Francis Center Grant, amount $200.

The Pfeiffer Institute offered free depression screenings.

We made community connections with gourmet food trucks from Charlotte. The food trucks set up and served the expo participants. The food trucks included:

A massage therapist from Eden Therapy and Massage also provided free neck and shoulder massages. A nurse practitioner from Elizabeth Family Medicine offered free blood pressure screenings.

The expo was a success and provided opportunities for our community to learn about PIMFT's professional, affordable, and confidential services. We had members of the community join us for lunch on the Pfeiffer campus. In addition, our students benefited by learning about our partnerships that provide internship opportunities. Lastly, the expo brought our Charlotte campus together and welcomed prospective students to Pfeiffer University.

2012 MFT Expo

The week of October 8-12th, PIMFT offered the community free initial therapy sessions. We  had over 15 new clients call for an appointment and we served 62 clients and their families that week.

On October 29th, 10 partner sites joined a panel for our MFT students to discuss internship opportunities for the coming year.

This year the expo was deliberately scaled down to focus our efforts specifically on accommodating for the growth of our clinic and client needs and growth of our MFT program. The interns are providing care for over 150 active cases and our MFT program has approximately 70 enrolled students on the Charlotte campus, therefore, it was essential to tailor this year's expo directly to the needs of our clients and students.
